Rathburn’s songs, whether serious or humorous, are always presented in a light manner and mood, and are never preachy. You can enjoy them just for the music, get into the lyrics, or anything in between – but enjoy them you will. There literally isn’t one song that I feel a desire to skip over, and that’s saying a lot when compared to many others, including big-name artists.

If the purpose of folk music is to provide the listener with something to think about while being entertained with good instrumental and vocal accompaniment, Joe Rathburn has hit the mark
– Dave Garcia, San Diego Troubador Magazine
…Joe Rathburn sings modest tunes about ordinary people, but the care and craft he devotes to his Everyguy (and Everygal) songs give each little story a big warm heart.”
– Karla Peterson, The San Diego Union-Tribune
It’s been a long time since I’ve heard someone perform on the high musical and professional level of accomplishment that Joe Rathburn exhibits, and truthfully right now I can’t remember exactly when. With tuneful, thoughtful and melodic songs, adroit playing (to say the least) and excellent singing, his show was edifying and inspiring to me and to the audience, and a lot of fun besides. It made me want to go home and practice. He’s a real musician and I’d recommend Joe Rathburn under any circumstances. This man takes care of business.
– Michael Peter Smith, Renowned performing songwriter
Joe Rathburn’s music is hard to pigeon-hole…he’s just really, really good.”
– Jim Hoehn, Milwaukee Journal
I’m REALLY picky about what goes on the front page. We get about 40 new albums a DAY coming in here now, (about 12,000 total), and yours is one of the best I’ve ever heard. A very cunning and lucid work of folk pop splendor.”
– Derek Silvers, President, CDBaby.com
Present once again is Joe Rathburn’s trademark solid songwriting, and his clean and articulate acoustic guitar work – but a welcome addition this time around are the stylistic stretches that go beyond the usual idiomatic singer-songwriter fare.”
– Jim Earp
Joe, I personally like your music. What I’m especially drawn to is the heart in it.”
– Tom Kimmel, singer/songwriter (covered by Linda Ronstadt, Joe Cocker, Maura O’Connel, The Stray Cats)
